Chassis YT4458 Engine 14440
Exceedingly rare MG YT Tourer. The YT was an open drophead, two-door rendering of the post-war YA range of four-seater saloon cars, although it differed far more than just not having a fixed roof and fewer doors. The whole Y range of cars had a pre-war look as they had, in essence, been designed in the late 1930s.
Although over seven thousand YA and YB saloons were made, less than a thousand of the tourer version YTs were actually made in total of which slightly over a quarter are thought to survive and fewer than fifty are known to be in the UK. This makes it a rare MG by any reckoning. Recorded as an EXR version (export, right-hand drive), this car was repatriated from the USA (Florida) in 2014 and then subsequently totally restored through into 2015.
The accompanying paperwork includes a full photographic record of the restoration in both hard copy and on a memory stick which incorporates a delightful video clip of the car being driven out of its garage in the States in 2014 in its then unrestored condition. There are sheaves of invoices and a summary list of work with tens of thousands spent largely at all the right places (NTG, Moss Europe, Woolies). The work comprised a back to bare metal professional respray with complete colour change, a replacement interior and new tan double-duck canvas hood.
The new colour scheme of stunning black with red leather with pale piping is an original colour combination available in period. The restoration included replacement metal where needed and marine ply flooring, bumpers, new wheels, four new Excelsior 4-ply tyres with tubes, new hubcaps, door handles, speedo, clutch, fuel pump, wheel cylinders, brake shoes, reconditioned carburettors, water pump, water and fuel hoses, etc. After restoration the car passed its one and only MoT test in April 2015
Excellent condition with one or two small areas for improvement, the car drives nicely in all gears including reverse. Comes complete with full weather gear.
UK V5 held where it is correctly recorded as a historic vehicle in black with the original chassis and engine numbers. Much information on these lovely cars can be found on the exceptionally good MG Y Type News website at:
